Dolichoectasia of the vertebrobasilar complex causing neural compression

چکیده
We agree with the authors that there is still uncertainty in the optimal treatment of VBD, since there has been no systematic review or long‐term results from the different surgical interventions including microvascular decompression (MVD). However, to date, the MVD is the only interventional technique that is able to definitively treat such a pathological condition when associated with symptomatic neural compression.

Hydrocephalus as a rare compilation of vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia: A case report and review of the literature
Background Vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia (VBD) is a rare disease characterized by significant expansion, elongation, and tortuosity of the vertebrobasilar arteries. Hydrocephalus is a rare compilation of VBD. Case Description In this study, we report a 68-year-old male presenting with headache, progressive decreased visual acuity, memory loss, imbalance while walking, and episodes of urinary...
متن کاملTrigeminal Neuralgia due to Vertebrobasilar Dolichoectasia
We presented a case of drug-resistant trigeminal neuralgia attributed to vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia, a rare condition characterized by enlargement, tortuosity, or elongation of intracranial arteries. Dolichoectatic vessels can cause dysfunction of cranial nerves through direct vascular compression. The relationships of vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia with the particularities of neurovascular...
متن کاملAcute Bilateral Ophthalmoplegia Due to Vertebrobasilar Dolichoectasia: A Report of Two Cases
BACKGROUND Vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia (VBD) is a complex progressive arterial disease characterized by dilation, elongation, and tortuosity of the vertebral and basilar arteries, and may be congenital or acquired. VBD may lead to progressive compression of the brainstem, cranial nerve abnormalities, and intracranial hemorrhage, but may also be associated with arterial thrombosis, with ische...
متن کاملVertebrobasilar dolichoectasia as a cause of trigeminal neuralgia: the role of microvascular decompression. Case report.
Our purpose is to report a case of trigeminal neuralgia caused by vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia treated with microvascular decompression. A 63-year-old man sought treatment for a recurrent lancinating left facial pain in V2 and V3 trigeminal territories. The computed tomography angiography revealed a mechanical compression of the left trigeminal nerve due to vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia. The...
متن کاملVisual Loss, Homonymous Hemianopia, and Unilateral Optic Neuropathy as the Presenting Symptoms of Vertebrobasilar Dolichoectasia
Vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia (VBD) is a relatively rare disorder for which unfortunately there is no treatment. Here we describe a case of simultaneous pre- and postchiasmal visual pathway pathology secondary to a space occupying VBD. In addition our patient demonstrates one of the very few cases of VBD compression of the retrochiasmal pathway with no other cranial nerve involvement.
